500 Juror Moves from Handmade Books to Podcasting
Steve Miller, head of the University of Alabama’s book arts program, is a master of the podcast. In this rich, reflective audio piece, Steve relates his own journey into the world of handset letterpress printing and making books by hand. He talks about what it was like to jury the thousands of entries received by Lark for 500 Handmade Books, which he calls “a feast for the eyes.” Steve describes the range of work that was seen, and spots some emerging influences in contemporary book making practice.
Amazingly, Steve has gone on to make intimate and fascinating interviews with a wide range of book artists, many of whom are included in the juried collection. Finally, he tells you where to find book arts programs to further your own journey into the fascinating world of handmade books. Be sure to see Steve’s own work at his Red Hydra Press website. You’ll find still more podcasts there.
