Curmudgeonly Crafter: April Edition
City life always offers small surprises: a new coffee shop on the corner, passing no fewer than three buskers in the space of three blocks, or the poetry of construction signs. It took me two evenings to get a shot that didn’t reflect headlights or glare from my camera flash while worrying that some freelance proofreader or copyeditor would spot an obvious error and alert our city workers to their spelling snafu. Thankfully, over a week later, the sign still warns drivers of “trouble” ahead. If you’re familiar with our fair city, you know that College Street is a main thoroughfare (in fact, Lark Books was once housed at 50 College Street). My head spun around and my inner artist screamed with delight upon driving past this sign in OFC.

Which brings me to exciting news about books I’m working on. First, Masters: Collage is in the works for late spring in 2010. Curated by Randel Plowman, it promises to bring together a fine collection of 40 collage artists. I enjoy visiting Randel’s blog. Also, I’m looking forward to looking at images with juror Suzie Millions in the next few months for 500 Found Objects. You’ll have to wait until fall of 2010 for this addition to our popular 500 series of books. But not me: I get to see it come together!
I’ll be driving down to Atlanta in late April to peruse the Stitches South show. If you’re within driving distance, you might want to take a look as well. I’m a sucker for new yarns and may very well attend a workshop or two.
I’m also working on an idea for a new book for January of 2010. I’ll tell you more about it next month once I get the idea approved!
